Black Brown Copper Patina – Works on Copper, Brass and Bronze

Verzinkshop Black Brown Copper Patina works on copper, brass and bronze. The patina on brass and copper gives a satin black-brown to deep black patina effect and with the patina on bronze the color is lighter. Ideal for fittings, restoration and project work such as accents on façade panels, wall panels, façade cladding/wall cladding and metal sheet metal for interior/façade. The concentrate is easy to dilute and delivers consistent, reproducible results. Do you want a dark black patina? Then maintain a stronger mixing ratio.

Mixing and consumption

Dilute 5 to 20% with distilled water. Example with 100 ml concentrate:

  • 5%: 100 ml concentrate + 1900 ml water = 2 liters of solution – light bronze/light brown; quiet, slow build-up.
  • 10%: 100 ml concentrate + 900 ml water = 1 liter solution – medium to dark brown/black-brown; balanced structure.
  • 20%: 100 ml concentrate + 400 ml water = 0.5 litres of solution – dark/black; Fast coverage.

Tip: always test on a test piece of the same metal and with the same (polishing) finish.

Galvanizing Brown Black Patina Application

  • Cleaning and rinsing
Clean the metal completely and free of grease. For galvanised layers: rinse thoroughly with cold water and activate briefly with a light acid or Galvanising Shop Activator, then rinse thoroughly. For solid metal/sheet metal: Mechanical or dry cleaning (Activator) and rinse thoroughly.
  • Using
patina fluidImmediately after rinsing, dip the object in the patina liquid. Move the parts around to avoid air bubbles and contact everywhere.
  • Rinse
Rinse the object well. If necessary, immerse in baking soda dissolved in water to neutralize the remaining acid.
  • Sealing and finishing
For color retention and abrasion resistance (especially when touching/outside): seal while the surface is still wet from the rinse.

What is patina?

Patina is a controlled discoloration of the metal surface. By chemically patinating you accelerate the natural aging process and determine the depth, nuance and direction of the color. Finishing (brushing, light polishing) and sealing determine the final appearance and maintenance.

The process for our patinas is similar. Take a look at a quick example on brass:

Applications and examples

  • Hardware and fittings: handles, hinges, rosettes, switchgear.
  • Interior/exterior: patina accents on façade panels, wall panels and façade cladding/wall cladding.
  • Art and customization: decorative objects, letter boards, metal sheet metal for interior/façade.
