Caswell One Plate® Electroless nickel plating is a revolution in simple nickel plating without electricity.
Nickel plating parts with Caswell One Plate nickel. This is a simple solution for nickel plating small parts without a power supply. Mix the concentrate with distilled water, heat the liquid and immerse the part for an even nickel layer.
Non-conductive objects such as plastic and 3D prints can also be nickel-plated after pre-treatment with Caswell Nickel Plastic Activator.
Caswell One Plate nickel is supplied including the necessary amount of distilled water.
Applying electroless nickel with Caswell One Plate is simple. It uses one concentrate to make and replenish the solution. Mix the required amount with distilled water, heat to 85 degrees Celsius and start the process. Move the workpiece lightly in the bath from time to time to loosen bubbles and prevent streaks. The system is designed to be easily maintained and replenished with fresh liquid to extend the life of the bath.
150 ml One Plate + 850 ml distilled water = 1 liter nickel liquid
300 ml One Plate + 1700 ml distilled water = 2 liters of nickel plating liquid
750 ml One Plate + 4250 ml distilled water = 5 liters of nickel plating liquid
1500 ml One Plate + 8500 ml distilled water = 10 liters nickel plating liquid
Per 150 ml One Plate, you can nickel plate about 200 cm² of surface when a time of 30 minutes is maintained.
Avoid overloading. Too much surface at once can stop the reaction. Keep as secure bandwidth:
Rule of thumb for consumption so that you can estimate when refilling is needed: with a 1 liter bath, you use about 20 percent of the starting nickel when you nickel nickel about 50 cm² for about 20 minutes. For 2 litres this is about 40 minutes and for 5 litres about 100 minutes for the same 50 cm². With larger surfaces or longer times, it goes faster.
The nickel is consumed from the liquid. The solution does not have to be thrown away but can be supplemented with fresh additions of One Plate nickel concentrate. Keep the nickel content above 80 percent of the starting level. Evaporation loss after heating is replenished with distilled water back to the original level.
On copper and copper alloys, the auto-catalytic reaction does not always start immediately. Hang the part together in contact with a small piece of steel in the solution for the first 2 to 5 minutes until gas formation is visible and then remove the steel. The first deposit makes the surface autocatalytic, after which the process continues automatically.
The gloss depends on the finish of the object and the freshness of the solution. For high gloss, a fresh bath and a well-polished surface are recommended. Matte finishes resemble cadmium or butler nickel. By varying the surface finish, different results are possible.
Electroless nickel plating is widely applied because it covers evenly even in pipes and holes. It is used for firearms and small hand tools, for example, and in motorcycle and car restoration for even coverage of cooling fins and awkward shaped parts.
One Plate Nickel is a currentless nickel system. The nickel layer is created by a chemical reaction after immersion in the activated solution and does not require an external power source. The result is an even deposit, even on complex shapes and in cavities.
