Caswell Mega Black for chemical blackening of steel and iron
The original Caswell Mega Black from Caswell Plating USA for chemical blackening of iron and steel gives an even darker finish than the traditional Caswell Black Oxide. Original product: Caswell Mega Black.
Available in:
Gives a professional, very dark finish with no noticeable size change, ideal for precision parts. Suitable for larger panels and furniture and delivers a consistent conversion coating in appearance similar to hot black oxide. By adjusting the mixing ratio, the final colour can be controlled.
Distilled water not included. Demineralized or tap water can also be used, read more about different types of water. The prepared liquid can be stored in a sealed container for reuse.
Caswell offers two options for cold black oxidation of steel and iron, Caswell Black Oxide and Caswell Mega Black. Both are suitable for room temperature processes, Mega Black usually gives a darker final tone.
Black oxide in itself has limited anti-corrosion. Protect the layer with a water-repellent sealer such as Caswell Penetrating Sealer or Caswell Sealer. Alternatives are beeswax, linseed oil or a clear coat, depending on the application and desired appearance.
Caswell black oxide processes work quickly at room temperature and are easy to apply, with results in seconds to minutes. Watch the video for an example of the process with the sealer.
