Caswell Sealer

Caswell Sealer is a water-based acrylic sealer for protecting chemically blackened and bare metal with a clear, smooth satin finish. The sealer forms a thin, hard and structureless film with very low VOC content.

Properties

• Suitable over conversion coatings such as black oxide and patina, and on bare metal.
• Can be applied to wet or dry parts, allow excess water to drip off first.
• Application via dipping, spraying or brush for an even, thin film.
• Dilution to 1 to 1 with water is possible for an extra thin, structureless layer, but this does reduce corrosion and wear resistance.
• Coverage approximately 70 m² per litre.
• Film thickness when immersed is approximately 0.002–0.003 mm per layer.
• Dust-dry in about 10 minutes, drying can be accelerated with warm air.

Protecting chemically blackened metal

After chemical blackening, sealing is recommended to maintain color and corrosion resistance. Dip the part in the sealer and let the excess liquid drain away, or apply with a brush or syringe. Then let it air dry. Avoid drying too quickly to avoid defects such as cracking.

Electroforming and porous materials

Caswell Sealer can be used undiluted to temporarily waterproof and dimensionally stable porous or soft materials in preparation for electroforming. Immerse for about 10 minutes, drain and dry completely before applying a conductive layer.
