Trivalent blue passivation for nickel creates a blue, iridescent conversion layer on nickel-plated surfaces. The solution is supplied ready-to-use and is intended as a decorative post-treatment with oxide-inhibiting properties.

To be used after nickel plating with Nickel Electrolyte or with this complete kit Caswell Nickel Plating Kit.

 

Properties of Trivalent Blue Nickel Passivator

  • Turnkey passivation solution for nickel-plated surfaces
  • Forms a blue, clear iridescent conversion layer with good tarnish inhibition
  • Operating temperature 18 to 32 °C, ideally approx. 24 °C
  • Process time typically 5 to 30 seconds, target value 10 seconds
  • pH range 1.65 to 2.0 – optimal 1.8 (increase with ammonia, decrease with nitric acid)
  • Bath material made of acid-resistant PVC, PP or PE, stainless steel is permitted
  • Agitation optional for a uniform finish
  • Rinse after passivation and allow to dry completely before further treatment
  • Corrosion protection: cosmetic protection and delay of deposits on nickel. No salt spray hours are specified by the manufacturer

 

Nickel passivation in a few steps

  1. Clean and rinse the nickel-plated surface
  2. Dip in the passivation solution for 5 to 30 seconds until the desired blue iridescent hue is achieved
  3. Rinse in a designated container and allow the surface to dry completely
