Brown Copper Patina – Brown patina for copper and its alloys

Brown Copper Patina – Works on Copper, Brass and Bronze

Verzinkshop Brown Copper Patina is developed for copper, bronze and brass and builds shades from light brown to chocolate brown with warm, gold-like nuances to easily and quickly patinate objects yourself. Originally designed for door fittings, but just as suitable for restoration, interior parts and patina on façade panels, wall panels, façade cladding/wall cladding and metal sheet metal for interior/façade. The color is uniform and easy to reproduce.

Mixing and consumption

Dilute 10 to 20% with distilled water. Example with 100 ml concentrate:

  • 10%: 100 ml concentrate + 900 ml water = 1 liter solution – light to medium brown shades; controlled construction.
  • 20%: 100 ml concentrate + 400 ml water = 0.5 liters of solution – deep/dark browns; faster coverage.

Work in thin increments for even, smudge-free results on larger sheet metal.

Apply Brown Copper Patina

  • Cleaning and rinsing
Clean the metal completely and free of grease. For galvanised layers: rinse thoroughly with cold water and activate briefly with a light acid or Galvanising Shop Activator, then rinse thoroughly. For solid metal/sheet metal: Mechanical or dry cleaning (Activator) and rinse thoroughly.
  • Using patina fluid for patinating bronze,
for exampleImmediately after rinsing, dip the object in the patina liquid. Move the parts around to avoid air bubbles and contact everywhere.
  • Rinse
Rinse the object well. If necessary, immerse in baking soda dissolved in water to neutralize the remaining acid.
  • Sealing and finishing
For color retention and abrasion resistance (especially when touching/outside): seal while the surface is still wet from the rinse.

What is patina?

Patina is an aesthetic oxide layer. By controlling the process with concentration, time and surface preparation, you get exactly the color depth that suits fittings, objects and sheet metal. Sealing stops further natural discoloration and makes the surface easier to maintain.

The process for our patinas is similar. Take a look at a quick example on brass:

Applications

  • Door hardware, lighting, furniture and kitchen hardware.
  • Interior/exterior: accents on façade panels, wall panels and façade cladding/wall cladding.
  • Art and object: decorative panels, letter boards and metal sheet metal for interior/façade.

Would have liked to be able to use this in gel form as well (such as metal chemical blackening)
