Features of Frost Auto Black Zinc

Blackening zinc with this liquid takes up to 10 minutes and does not affect the dimensions of the object, ideal for precision parts.

  • Black Zinc Oxide can be used after galvanization with a galvanizing kit or applied to clean zinc.
  • Works on bare zinc or zinc treated with a blue passivation. Please note! This product does not work on yellow zinc.
  • This is not a passivating agent and the black oxide coating must be finished with a water-repellent sealer against oxidation.
  • Extra protection of zinc against corrosion in combination with a water-repellent sealer.
  • The Black Zinc Oxide liquid is delivered ready-to-use and must be used undiluted.
  • Clear manual for easy use.

Black Zinc Liquid Product Information

Unlike a blue, yellow or black passivative, which is a conversion layer that provides additional corrosion protection directly on galvanized steel, Black Zinc Oxide is a chemical treatment that forms a black oxide layer on zinc or galvanized steel, similar to cold chemical blackening for steel and iron. The layer itself offers limited protection and must be finished with a sealer to prevent oxidation.

Corrosion resistance is achieved by applying a water-repellent sealer such as the Verzinkshop DeepSeal Metal Sealer or Galvanizing Acrylic Metal Sealer.

How to blacken your own zinc with Black Zinc Oxide

Follow the steps to get a black finish on zinc:

  1. Pour the liquid into a suitable container as described in the manual.
  2. Make sure that the object to be treated is free of dirt and grease.
  3. If necessary, treat the object with an activator and rinse it thoroughly.
  4. Immerse the part in the Black Zinc Oxide and stir it occasionally until the desired result is achieved. For large objects, a brush or sponge can be used.
  5. Rinse the part very well in a designated container (not under the tap) and finish it immediately with a sealer of your choice without drying the object first.
