Gunmetal Copper Patina

Price range: €14.95 through €39.95

Verzinkshop Gunmetal Copper Patina works on copper, brass and bronze, but also on white metal, silver and tin/lead alloys.

Gunmetal Copper Patina -Works on Copper, Brass, Bronze, White Metal, Silver, Tin and Lead

Verzinkshop Gunmetal Copper Patina works on copper, brass and bronze, but also on white metal, silver and tin/lead alloys. On copper alloys, gray to black develop, gunmetal blue patina and light purple patina; on white metal/silver/tin predominantly browner tones. Perfect for expressive effects on fittings, art and customisation – including application on façade panels, wall panels, façade cladding/wall cladding and metal sheet metal for interior/façade.

Mixing and consumption

Dilute 10 to 20% with distilled water. Example with 100 ml concentrate:

  • 10%: 100 ml concentrate + 900 ml water = 1 litre of solution – brown on white metal/silver/tin; light gray on copper/brass/bronze.
  • 20%: 100 ml concentrate + 400 ml water = 0.5 liter solution – gunmetal blue to light purple and deeper black on copper/brass/bronze.

Build color in short cycles for better control over transitions and intensity.

Apply Gunmetal Blue & Purple Patina

  • Cleaning and rinsing
Clean the metal completely and free of grease. For galvanised layers: rinse thoroughly with cold water and activate briefly with a light acid or Galvanising Shop Activator, then rinse thoroughly. For solid metal/sheet metal: Mechanical or dry cleaning (Activator) and rinse thoroughly.
  • Using
patina fluidImmediately after rinsing, dip the object in the patina liquid. Move the parts around to avoid air bubbles and contact everywhere.
  • Rinse
Rinse the object well. If necessary, immerse in baking soda dissolved in water to neutralize the remaining acid.
  • Sealing and finishing
For color retention and abrasion resistance (especially when touching/outside): seal while the surface is still wet from the rinse.

What is patina?

Patina is controlled surface chemistry. Material type (copper, brass, bronze), pre-treatment and mixing ratio determine the colour family. By sealing, you capture the result and make the finish more resistant to touch and environment.

The process for our patinas is similar. Take a look at a quick example on brass:

Applications and examples

  • Hardware, grilles, trims and instrument parts.
  • Project work: color gradients and accents on façade panels, wall panels and façade cladding/wall cladding.
  • Art, signmaking and metal sheet metal for interior/façade.
