Nickel electroforming kit from Caswell Plating USA

Nickel Electroforming with the Caswell Nickel Electroforming Kit

The Caswell Nickel Electroforming Kit contains everything to provide objects with a strong nickel layer. This sulphamate nickel formula is suitable for electroforming on metallic and conductive surfaces. Worn shafts and machine parts can be re-coated and reworked. 3D printed objects can also be reinforced with nickel for extra durability.

What is electroforming with nickel

Electroforming with nickel is the controlled deposition of pure nickel on a conductive surface. It is suitable for repair work, structural applications and as a base coat for hard chrome.

Benefits of the Caswell Nickel Electroforming Kit

  • Sulfamate nickel provides a strong, dense nickel layer
  • The nickel comes from the electrolyte and not from the anodes; The electrolyte must be changed periodically
  • Suitable for repairing worn parts
  • Reinforced 3D printed or other objects with a hard nickel coating
  • Can build up layer thicknesses of up to approx. 2.0 mm
  • Uniform finish with controlled construction

Included in this kit

  • Caswell nickel liquid A and crystals B
  • Distilled water
  • Stainless steel anode 2 × 150 g each
  • Cables for anode connection
  • 2 × filter cloth
  • Liquid filter
  • Bucket
  • Thick and thin copper wire
  • Copper tube
  • Filter pump
  • Gloves
  • Clear manual
  • Optional
    • 5 amp lab power supply for 2 liter kits
    • 10 amp lab power supply for 6 and 12 liter kits

Properties of Caswell nickel electroforming

  • Works on conductive paints such as copper and silver paint
  • Adheres to copper, brass, bronze, steel, iron and galvanized aluminum
  • Removal speed approximately 0.025 mm per hour
  • Layer thickness up to approx. 2.0 mm
  • Current density 0.1–0.5 amps per 10 cm²
  • pH 4.0–4.5
  • Temperature 44–49 °C
  • Agitation with pump
  • Nickel electroforming cannot be done with Caswell clear nickel
  • The nickel comes from the electrolyte and not from the stainless steel anodes

Electroforming with nickel

Check the deposits regularly to prevent coral-like growth once the surface is dense. Agitation and lower flow give a more even result. For a denser nickel layer, you can increase the temperature and decrease the flow within the working area of the bath. If the layer is dark or rubbing off, reduce the amperage.
