Caswell plating USA nickel electrolyte ready for use for nickel plating of various metals and objects

Nickel Electrolyte – Caswell Bright Nickel

Nickel plating yourself with Caswell Plating USA nickel electrolyte. This ready-to-use liquid gives a commercial, glossy finish in about 20 minutes and can be used as a final coat with minimal polishing. Suitable for nickel plating of various metal parts in workshop or at home.

The shiny nickel layer builds up evenly and is ideal as a final finish or as a chrome undercoat. Works at room temperature for easy setup and can be used at 43 degrees Celsius for optimal results.

The electrolyte is available in:

  • 1 liter
  • 2 liters
  • 5 litres
  • 10 litres

Properties of the nickel electrolyte

  • Nickel can be applied to steel, iron, nickel, copper, brass, bronze, gold, and silver
  • The process uses nickel anodes: nickel anode
  • Directedness guideline: 0.1 ampere per 10 cm²
  • Uses nickel brightener for a bright finish
  • Works at room temperature and can be used optimally at 43 degrees Celsius
  • The nickel comes from the anodes and these need to be replaced when they run out
  • Long shelf life with good maintenance. Periodically refill brightener and replace anodes
  • Too acidic for cast soft metal. Treat this first with Caswell Flash Copper™

Technical specifications

  • Recommended current density: 0.1 amps per 10 cm²
  • Anodes: nickel
  • Works on: steel, iron, nickel, copper, brass, bronze, gold, silver
  • Glazing agent: 40 ml/L nickel brightener at start-up. Then periodically refill
  • Layer thickness:
    • 15–30 min 0.006 mm
    • 30–60 min 0.0125 mm
    • 60–90 min 0.025 mm
  • Agitation: pump or air
  • Operating Range Temperature: 21 – 45 degrees Celsius
  • Temperature optimal: 43 degrees Celsius
  • Shelf life: long shelf life with proper maintenance
  • Metal emitted by: anode
  • Anode filter: polypropylene

Show chrome result

By applying nickel to a polished copper underlay and applying a layer of chrome over it, a very bright, shiny chrome finish is created that is widely used on show cars and vintage cars.

Setting up the bath and nickel plating yourself

Nickel plating parts yourself with this electrolyte is easy.

  1. Fill a suitable plastic or glass tank with the nickel electrolyte
  2. Hang two nickel anodes in the bath and turn on agitation with pump or air
  3. Work at room temperature or bring the bath to 43 degrees Celsius for an optimal finish
  4. Connect the red positive of the power supply to the anodes and leave the power supply off
  5. Attach the workpiece to a stick resting on the edge of the bath, dip it in the electrolyte and connect the black minus to the workpiece
  6. Measure the surface to be coated and set the power supply to 0.1 amps per 10 cm². Turn on the power and let the process run until the desired layer is reached

What is Caswell Shiny Nickel Electrolyte

Electrolyte is an electrically charged ion solution used in electrolysis. In this process, the electrolyte is placed in a designated container and an electric current is passed through the electrolyte, the object and the anodes, making nickel plating possible. A power supply is required for this process.
