Chrome Electrolyte – Caswell Copy Chrome™

With Caswell Copy Chrome™, you can chrome yourself and apply a chrome look to parts such as door handles, hinges, brackets, engine parts and small tools. This chrome electrolyte is not real chrome but gives a chrome-like finish without the dangerous chrome baths and fumes associated with hard chrome plating. The process is easy to set up and in combination with copper and nickel underlayments you approach a showroom chrome result.

Copy Chrome™ delivers a durable chrome layer that is stronger than nickel and retains its shine. Suitable for steel, copper, brass, bronze, nickel and for aluminum after zincate pre-treatment.

The electrolyte is always supplied including free Copy Chrome glazing agent.

The electrolyte is available in:

  • 1 liter

Chrome plating parts and objects yourself

Chrome plating with Copy Chrome™ is a simple process that offers many benefits of true chrome plating. The whole process takes about the same amount of time as standard nickel plating. Guideline values are 15 minutes for interior decoration, 30 minutes for tools, and 1 hour for heavier applications.

The Copy Chrome™ process is ideal for small items such as door handles, brackets, hinges, nuts and bolts, engine parts, and more. It can be applied to steel, copper, brass, bronze, nickel and with the help of Zincate also to aluminum.

Setting up the bath and chrome plating parts

  1. Fill a suitable plastic or glass tank with the electrolyte
  2. Add the brightener as described in the manual
  3. Hang two cobalt anodes in the bath and turn on agitation with pump or air
  4. Bring the bath to 21 to 43 degrees Celsius – 43 degrees for best results
  5. Connect the red positive of the power supply to the anodes and leave the power supply off
  6. Attach the workpiece to a stick resting on the edge of the bath, dip it in the electrolyte and connect the black minus to the workpiece
  7. Measure the surface to be chromed and set the power supply to 0.05 amps per 10 cm², turn on the power and let the process run until the desired layer is reached

What is Caswell Copy Chrome™ Electrolyte

Copy Chrome is a chrome-look electrolyte that allows you to electrolytically apply a clear, chrome-like layer. A power supply deposits metal from the solution onto the workpiece for a durable, high-gloss finish. A power supply is required for this process.
