Verzinkshop Metal Activator

Verzinkshop Metal Activator is a mixture of salts and acids that is dissolved in water to remove oxide layers and activate metal surfaces for follow-up treatments such as chemical blackening, electroplating and patina.

Features of Galvanizing Metal Activator

The solution removes rust on iron and steel and other oxide layers on stainless steel, zinc, zinc casting, copper and copper alloys, among others. The activator operates at room temperature for many applications and helps remove organic residues and micropollutants so that the surface reacts cleanly and uniformly in the next step.

Applications

• Preparing steel and iron for chemical blackening.
• Activate stainless steel for the chemical blackening of stainless steel by removing the passive chromium oxide layer. (only works on stainless steel from the 400 series, to activate stainless steel from the 300 series you use 30$% hydrochloric acid diluted 1:1 with water)
• Etch and activate different metals for better adhesion in electroplating such as galvanizing or nickel plating.
• Conditioning copper and copper alloys for an even patina.

Dosages and times per metal

• Activate the sample, 30 to 60 grams per litre, immerse for 30 to 60 seconds.
• Remove rust from steel, 120 to 240 grams per litre, immerse for 2 to 5 minutes.
• Activate stainless steel, 120 to 240 grams per liter, 2 to 5 minutes at 65 to 85 degrees Celsius.
• Remove copper and copper alloys oxide, 30 to 120 grams per liter, 30 to 60 seconds.
• Remove zinc oxide, 7.5 to 15 grams per liter, 15 to 30 seconds.
• Preparing zinc casting for electroplating, 7.5 to 15 grams per liter, 15 to 45 seconds.

Preparing the surface

• Remove loose rust, dirt, and other contaminants.
• Degrease thoroughly with a suitable cleaner so that the activator continues to work cleanly.
• Rinse with clean water.
• Dip the part into the prepared activator according to the dosage at the top.
• After treatment, rinse carefully in a designated container.
• Proceed immediately with the desired surface treatment.

Safety information

The activator is corrosive and can cause severe burns or eye damage if used improperly. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment and preferably use the solution in a well-ventilated area, especially when heated baths.
