Shelf life of the products

Table of contents

All products last at least a year. Most of the products in our range are chemicals with a long shelf life, but we also offer some organic products, such as electrolyte brighteners, with a limited shelf life.

Chemicals

It is very important to maintain the various liquids well and keep them clean. This way you extend their lifespan. After use, liquids can become unbalanced due to pollution, for example. The manuals state the required values that the liquids must meet, such as the correct pH value, to continue to function optimally. So it does not mean that a liquid no longer works when it is a few months old, but it may be that it has become unbalanced. By rebalancing it, it can be used again.

Chemical liquids, such as the black oxide products for cold chemical blackening of metal and the patina products for patinating copper and its alloys, can be stored for at least a year, but often for many years longer. However, it may happen that the liquid is slightly less effective, but this can be remedied by adding a small amount of concentrate.

The various electrolytes, such as copper or nickel electrolyte, basically have no expiration date and can be used indefinitely, provided they are properly maintained. If an electrolyte is contaminated and can no longer be filtered by simple filters, it can always be filtered using activated carbon. Please note that this will also remove the brightener system and require re-addition.

Organic products

The additives for the different types of electrolyte, such as the glazing agent, contain organic substances that can be stored for a shorter period of time. These have a shelf life of one year. After this period, they should be tested for their effectiveness. It is wise to store the liquids and solids in a cool place.
