Metal Chemical Blackening Kit Ultra With Sealer
Chemical black sealant ultra for a fast, even and dark black oxide finish on steel and iron. The kit contains everything you need to start the cold chemical blackening process right away, plus a sealer of your choice (Acrylic, DeepSeal or Uni) for protection of the conversion coating and base metal. Black Oxide Ultra is formulated as a milder acid with a lower hazard classification than standard black oxide, making it more friendly to use in practice.
Contents of the Black Oxide Ultra Kit
Do you need an activator or etching agent? Order it right away: Verzinkshop Metal Activator. For difficult types of steel, you can also activate briefly with hydrochloric acid.
Features of the Black Oxide Ultra Kit
Blackening iron and steel is very simple with this kit.
- Complete kit for cold chemical blackening of metal with a finish similar to that of hot black oxide processes.
- Suitable for hobbyists and small professionals, no special equipment required.
- Works on cold and hot rolled steel and iron, structural steel, alloy steel and tool steel, cast iron and forged steel, not suitable for stainless steel.
- Milder acid formulation than standard black oxide with lower hazard classification and higher pH.
- Sealer Choice: Acrylic Metal Sealer, DeepSeal Metal Sealer or Uni Metal Sealer.
- Guideline value coverage: ≈ 2 m² per 2 liters of liquid mixed.
Key Features of Black Oxide Ultra
- Starting mixing ratio: 1:9 (1 part Ultra concentrate to 9 parts water), adjust if necessary, e.g. 1:6 for stronger or 1:12 for thinner. With a brush or sponge, 1:2–1:9 or undiluted can be used.
- Process duration usually 2–3 minutes until the desired black depth is reached, maximum 5 minutes.
- Rinse in a designated container and seal directly while the surface is still wet, do not use compressed air to dry.
- Compatible with activating or etching with hydrochloric acid (HCl) 1:1 with water for difficult or very passive steel, apply briefly and then rinse well.
- No noticeable size change, suitable for precision parts.
Sealer choice: Acrylic, DeepSeal or Uni Sealer
- Acrylic Metal Sealer – water-based, clear and hard, glossy structureless layer with very low VOC, ideal for indoor use.
- DeepSeal Metal Sealer – oil-based, water-expelling, dry-to-the-touch with very light oil film, deepens the black and gives a classic look.
- Uni Metal Sealer – oil base with a fuller or greasier final finish, gives a slightly richer shine and black depth and is easy to touch-up.
Using the Black Oxide Ultra Kit
First, do a small test as in the manual to determine the optimal mixing ratio for your metal. This will prevent excessive dilution when a heavier bath is needed.
- Mix water and Ultra concentrate in the bucket provided according to the instructions, standard 1:9.
- Degrease and clean thoroughly, carry out a water breakage test if necessary. If necessary, activate briefly with HCl 1:1 or use the Verzinkshop Metal Activator and then rinse well.
- Submerge the part or work with a brush or sponge and move lightly until the desired color is achieved, usually 2–3 minutes.
- Rinse in a designated container, not under the tap, and apply the chosen sealer directly while the surface is still wet.
- Let dry. If desired, work according to the sealer manual.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does the liquid last? Several months in a sealed container, depending on hygiene, load and maintenance.
- Is a sealer necessary? Yes, sealing is highly recommended for corrosion protection and color retention. Choose DeepSeal, Uni or Acrylic depending on the desired finish.
- Can I use this to blacken stainless steel? No, this kit is for iron and steel. For stainless steel you use the Stainless Steel Chemical Black Kit.
