Product information Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide

Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide gives stainless steel a gray-black iridescent finish. Stainless steel naturally has rust-resistant properties, so a sealer is not necessary. Still, a sealer can be applied as extra protection or for optical purposes. The kit includes Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Concentrate and a sealer of your choice.

Steps on How to Blacken Stainless Steel

  • Mix the water and the Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide Concentrate in the supplied bucket according to the instructions.
  • Clean the stainless steel to be treated thoroughly and remove dirt and grease.
  • Remove the passive chromium oxide layer by an acid bath, sanding or blasting.
  • Perform a water breakage test .
  • Immerse the part in the liquid for a few minutes. For larger objects, use a brush or sponge.
  • Rinse the object in a container provided for this purpose, not under the tap.
  • Optionally, finish the object with a sealer.
  • Ready. Let the object dry and it is ready for use.

Advantages of the Stainless Steel Chemical Blackening Kit

  • Cost-effective: no external companies needed.
  • User-friendly: quick and easy to apply.
  • Safe: no hot liquids or complex processes.
  • Professional finish: evenly black and corrosion-resistant result.

Frequently asked questions

  • The liquid can be stored and reused for several months. If necessary, the concentrate can be reactivated.
  • This product does not work on iron and steel. Use the Verzinkshop Black Oxide Kit or Verzinkshop Black Oxide Ultra Kit for this.
  • At temperatures above ±300°C, the black oxide layer can discolor or disappear. Use a heat-resistant sealer at high temperatures.

The color of stainless steel after chemical blackening

With stainless steel, the finish varies from gray to iridescent blue-black, depending on the amount of chromium and nickel. Stainless steel 300 series like 316 is more resistant to corrosion, keeping the finish lighter. Stainless steel 400 series can darken due to a lower chromium content.
