Verzinkshop Black Oxide overview

Table of contents

Verzinkshop offers various products for the chemical blackening of different metals. There are products to blacken steel, iron, stainless steel but also zinc by means of cold chemical blackening at room temperature. We also have a gel for large and vertical objects that cannot be submerged. Read more information about the specific products below.

Verzinkshop Black Oxide for Steel and Iron

This is a traditional product for cold chemical blackening of steel and iron and similar to Caswell Black Oxide. Cold chemical blackening at room temperature with Verzinkshop Shop Black Oxide for cold and hot rolled carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, as well as cast iron, forged steels. The weakly acidic liquid concentrate is diluted with 9 parts water for a working solution of 10% by volume. Immersion times of 2 to 5 minutes. Does not work on stainless steel.

Verzinkshop Black Oxide Ultra

Verzinkshop Black Oxide Ultra is the latest system for chemical blackening at room temperature and is comparable to Caswell Mega Black. For cold and hot rolled carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, cast iron, forged steels and metal powder. It produces a black finish that is equal in depth of blackness and corrosion resistance to that of conventional hot black oxide processes. Works well for interior and architectural steel finishes. The weakly acidic liquid concentrate is diluted with 9 parts water for a working solution of 10% by volume. Immersion times of 2 to 5 minutes. Does not work on stainless steel.

The products are also available in complete kits with a sealer of your choice to immediately protect the metal and the black oxide coating: Verzinkshop Black Oxide Kit or the Verzinkshop Black Oxide Ultra Kit

Verzinkshop Black Oxide Gel for Large & Vertical Metals

A room temperature black oxide gel for cold and hot rolled carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, as well as cast iron and forged steels. It is a direct acting chemical conversion finish in black for all ferrous metals except stainless steel. It is recommended for architectural steel surfaces (such as steel steps and steel framing), blackening reworked black oxide surfaces, rapid touch-up of scratched or damaged black oxide finishes. It is also used for finishing prototype parts. It does not produce any dimensional or structural changes in the metal. The finish is resistant to solvents, oils, cutting fluids, and so on. Apply at full strength. Does not work on stainless steel.

Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide

Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide is a liquid concentrate and is used undiluted or diluted with up to 3 parts water for blackening stainless steel at room temperature. This product is similar to Caswell Stainless Steel Blackener.

Stainless steel has rust-resistant properties in itself, so it does not need a sealer such as black oxide on steel and iron, but it is available as a sealant including sealer for extra protection of the black oxide coating and the stainless steel: Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide Kit

Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide Gel

Verzinkshop Black Stainless Steel Oxide Gel is an acidic liquid concentrate and is used undiluted for blackening stainless steel at room temperature. It is a direct acting black chemical conversion finish for stainless steel. It is recommended for architectural stainless steel surfaces (such as handrails and stainless steel panels), blackening reworked black oxide surfaces and rapid touch-up of scratched or damaged black oxide finishes. It does not produce any dimensional or structural changes in the metal. The finish is resistant to solvents, oils, cutting fluids, and so on.

Verzinkshop Black Zinc Oxide

Verzinkshop Black Zinc Oxide is a blackening solution at room temperature for zinc and blue passivated zinc. The product is used undiluted. Immersion times of 10 minutes. This is not a passivating agent but an oxide layer, so it must be finished with a sealer.

Required equipment

Acid-resistant tanks, rotating drums, baskets, hooks and racks should be used together with the black oxide products.

Polypropylene, polyethylene or PVC immersion baskets, polypropylene rotating drums, plastic-lined or rubber-lined steel tanks and plastic-coated hooks and racks are suitable.
